Sikkim is a small and mountainous state in North-East India. It boasts of the 3rd tallest peak in the world – the Kanchenjunga and also India’s highest lakes. Although you cant get enough of Sikkim in 9 days, we managed to put a 9 day itinerary that we followed covering most of the state’s wonderful sights.

Gangtok – the largest town and the capital of Sikkim lies along one side of a hill. Although, it enjoys a stable mild climate throughout the year, it is prone to frequent landslides during the monsoon. It is also in close proximity to the Indo-China border of Nathula Pass.

Located at an elevation of more than 9000 ft above sea level, this tiny town is a visual delight. Lachung, which means “small pass”, comes under the Protected Area of North Sikkim. Apart from being a picturesque location, it is the base camp to head to Yumthang valley and Zero Point.

Lachen is a small town in the Protected Area of North Sikkim. The name Lachen means “big pass”. Tourists and pilgrims seeking to visit the holy Gurudongmar Lake can halt here for the night.

Also called as white water rafting, this extreme sport can give anyone a rush of adrenaline. About an hour’s drive from the town of Gangtok, lies Bhalkhola which is the popular starting point for rafting in the glacial waters of the Teesta. Bhakola, being en-route to Bagdogra, we decided to try it on our last day in Sikkim.

Ravangla is a small town situated in South Sikkim between Pelling and Gangtok. Along with clear views of Himalayan peaks from here, this place is laden with a variety of Himalayan flowers during the flowering season.

At an altitude of 7200ft, Pelling is a pleasant yet relatively unexplored town in the foothills of the Mt.Kanchenjunga. This town in the western part of the state of Sikkim is the closest you can get to the the 3rd highest peak in the world without leaving comfort.
